Cayla:
Sorry it has taken so long to respond to your posting, I don't check this board often. I am happy to hear from you. I have a lot of information on my Swiss families-Wieland & Truog- that goes back to Stephen Wieland-b 1 Aug 1665, and Lienhard Troug- b 1608.
I too, have heard the story about Rudolf and the march from Berlin to Paris. But I think it would have been difficult for our Rudolf(b 1808) to have been involved. Napoleon returned to Paris following his defeat of German forces in 1806. But the story is not completely untrue. Rudolf's father (b 1773) was also named Rudolf; and could very well have been a member of the Swiss Guard. The return in 1806 would have allowed him to be back in Switzerland, to father Rudolf Jr in 1808.
I am curious about your father. I found that he was born 29 Jan 1946, but I know not where. I was born in Lancaster, Wi, on 3 Jan 1946. I wonder if my parents and his parents knew each other. I see that he lives in Minneapolis, and I in Eau Claire, Wi.
I descend from Rudolf(1808), through his second son, Jacob(b 1833). Rudolf fathered three sons by three different women before his marriage to Maria Truog in 1859. Rudolf and Marie had four children, including George August b 21 May 1864 in Dubuque, Ia.
My line as follows: Rudolf 1808-1882, Jacob 1833-1910, his daughter Bertha Alma 1866-1948, who married George A Hoehn. Their son Virgil Hoehn 1900-1984, was my mother, Dorothy Hoehn Macke's father. My father was Stanley Macke. My mother, b 1923, is still alive and lives on the family farm in Lancaster.
I am James C. Macke, my wife is Lois; and we live at
