I have been trying for many years to discover who my grandfather was.
Having had a brief relationship with my grandmother whilst in the UK in 1939 he had to return home due to the outbreak of WWII leaving my grandmother pregnant and never to return again.
Only knowing his first name, Maximillian (Max for short), and that he came from Switzerland and was probably Swiss-German was all I had to go on.
That was until this week.
In my late grandmother's affects a postcard was found sent by my grandfather on the 28th September 1939 from Lucerne.
(He would have been aged about 19 or 20 approximately at this time).
It was a picture of the Hotel Schweizerhof in Lucerne.
It says: 'Kindest regards from an excursion to Lucerne - from my parents & me! Max.'
Now this is a long shot but as it is the only clue as to his whereabouts in Switzerland it's a start I thought I would never have.
It is possible that he was from this area or nearby.
All I need to do now is to discover his surname.
Just need to find another clue.
