My great grandmother was Katherine Bergdorf. According to information that I have just received, she was born about 1863 in Eppenburg,Solothurn, Switzerland. In the late 1860's the family immigrated from Switzerland to Akron, Ohio in the United States. According to the 1870 census in Akron, these were the family members:
Anna Bergdorf age 39 or 40
Henry age 16
Joseph age 13
Louisa age 10
Katherine age 7
Nora age 5
Christine age 1 born in Ohio
There is no father mentioned. According to my mother, Katherine was an orphan who lived with her "Aunt Lib" Bergdorf in the suburb of Akron.
